Take a Walk through Aix-en-Provence

Welcome to Aix-en-Provence!

In October of 2023, my now husband and I went to Provence, France for the first time and I absolutely fell in love with the region. We rented a car in Marseille (if I'm remembering correctly) and our first stop was Aix-en-Provence.

We walked through the town, went to a little street market, and then ate at a hidden cafe and had probably the best risotto of my life. Enjoy the photos of that day!

Three paintings were born out of the photos I took there. And lucky, lucky… they’re all still available through Well + Wonder!

THE PROCESS

  • take photo (obviously)

  • edit photo (sometimes)

  • stretch raw canvas on stretcher bars and prime with clear gesso (I like using clear gesso because you still get the look and feel of raw canvas, but you have a little bit more control over the paint)

  • do an abstract wash with similar colors of photo over the canvas (I’ll maybe glance at the photo, but this is a pretty free step)

  • once that’s dry, I take a white paint pen and sketch out the painting - you can see those marks peeking through the paint if you look closely

  • stare at the photo and do a loose impressionistic interpretation - continue until satisfied

  • et voila!
